The Real Lapland Experience is animation based media artwork by artists Simi Ruotsalainen and Savu E. Korteniemi, that uses game-, internet- and mobile app related visual language and aesthetics. The essential part of this work is imaginary AR app (Augmented Reality) built for Northern tourist industry. User (traveller/tourist) is called to create their own holiday experience by using different virtual and augmented reality layers on top of the actual experience with the help of the avatar tourist guide.

This is one part of the bigger artwork concept that comments tourist industry, but it has a backround in concerns about Northern environment, it’s usage and ethical views related to tourist industry. Parodies about Santa Claus are already a cliche in art , but what does climate change and declining nature diversity really mean from tourist’s point of view, who is looking for experiences in “Wild, clean North”?
